UEGF Training Support
UEGF Support of Postgraduate Educational Proposals (PEPs) 2011
Initiative General Aims
In 2011, UEGF will again support postgraduate programmes and educational trainings from UEGF member and national societies with EUR 10.000,- and calls for applications for the UEGF Support of Postgraduate Educational Proposals (PEPs).

Criteria of Evaluation
The UEGF Education Programme Committee will evaluate accepted proposals pursuant to four main evaluation criteria:
- Content: The prime focus of the postgraduate educational proposals should be on educational needs that are presently not satisfactorily met by available national or international postgraduate programmes or courses such as:
- Programmes developed for geographically and economically less advanced areas within Europe.
- Programmes aiming at specific gastrointestinal and hepatological diseases, symptoms, syndromes and topics overlapping with other medical professions that are insufficiently covered by available postgraduate teaching programmes.
- Current or future topics which may secure or broaden the base of practice of medical and surgical gastroenterology and hepatology like f.e.:
· Gastrointestinal oncology
· Nutrition
· Microbiology etc.
- Interdisciplinary topics and those which bridge gaps of medical care (e.g. age and development related, clinical problem related, basic medical to specialist care, topics covering different organ systems, diagnostic imaging and intervention).
- Programmes involving collaborations between sister and associate as well as national member societies of UEGF.
- Programmes aiming for a better cooperation between the different branches of the medical profession and at strengthening the continuity of gastrointestinal disease management between primary and secondary care.
- Method: The programme should have a sound educational methodology based on evidence based principles and aim at the educational needs of the target group. The selection of teacherfaculty should always apply a relevant gender balance. Active involvement of participants and self-assessment after the programme is propagated.
Various educational formats can be used:
- Small group teaching.
- Case based seminars with active involvement of participants.
- Problem based approaches with diagnostic pathways and therapeutic algorithms.
- Seminar-style teaching with active involvement of participants and hands-on trainings.
- The audience should receive educational material that facilitates individual feedback and repetition.
- Audience: The target group of the postgraduate educational proposals should be properly defined; the programme should focus on specific learning objectives of this audience.
- Innovation: In prioritising the proposals that are submitted for UEGF support the aspect of innovation will be considered. Proposals can be innovative in various aspects such as:
· Target group
· Educational set-up
· Subject etc.
The UEGF Education Programme Committee guarantees the support of diverse postgraduate educational proposals to avoid conflicts between teaching activities with overlapping scientific topics.
