The UEGF Education Committee is pleased to announce that the UEGF Professional Trainee Course on “Colo-rectal cancer - from prevention to palliation” will take place from Thursday morning till Friday afternoon, February 3-4, 2011 at the NCT-DKFZ Heidelberg in Germany.

150 young gastroenterologists, hepatologists, radiologists, surgeons and physicians in the last year of internal medicine a/o paediatrics training are invited to participate in this high quality educational programme, gaining new insight into some of the most important issues in Gastroenterology of today.

Participants are required to arrive not later than 09:30 on Thursday morning, February 3, 2011 for onsite registration at the NCT-DKFZ Heidelberg, Germany

Aims and goals
Being at present one of the main areas of concern in the field of GI, colo-rectal cancer is currently a highly debated issue within the GI community. This UEGF Professional Trainee Course aims for teaching and educating young physicians who are interested in gaining a better understanding of colo-rectal cancer and related functional GI disorders. The course is designed to assist fellows and trainees from all over Europe to expand their knowledge and develop their skills.

State-of-the-art lectures, typical case presentations, lively discussions, hands-on training and live operations will train the course delegates in theoretical analyses and practical methods. A high quality educational training and intense scientific interaction with top experts in the field will be guaranteed. Attendees will deepen their knowledge and gain practical skills training while applying state-of-the-art concepts and diagnosing patients’ cases.

Programme
The programme has been elaborated jointly by the responsible course managers with the aim to make the course very interactive and lively. The components of the programme are a mixture of state-of-the-art lectures on Thursday and practical skill training sessions on Friday. Hands-on training on Colonoscopy, Polypectomy (EMR, ESD) and Imaging (EUS, MRI, CT, PET) will be offered as well as live operations and case presentations to make the course as proactive as possible.

Friday, February 4, 2011

Day 2 is dedicated to technical hands-on training, experimental break-out sessions, live operations and case presentations. Successful candidates will be asked to choose between the parallel sessions Colonoscopy, Polypectomy (EMR, ESD) and Imaging (EUS, MRI, CT, PET). Allocation will be done online on a first-come, first-served basis as soon as participants have been selected. The possibility to attend two workshops during the time of the course will be guaranteed.

Application
UEGF invites gastroenterologists, hepatologists, radiologists, surgeons, fellows in internal medicine a/o paediatrics training with interest in colo-rectal cancer to apply online.
Applicants are asked to complete the online application and upload a short curriculum vitae (1 page). A registration fee of € 100,- has to be paid after being selected to confirm the participation in the course.

Selection process
Participation is by selection only. Notification of invitation to participate will be provided via e-mail. In case of being selected, a course fee of EUR 100,- has to be paid to confirm the registration.

A maximum of 150 trainees will be selected. Selection will be based on criteria of academic excellence, balance of specialities covered, age and regional and gender representation. The final selection will be done by the responsible course managers.

Once the course fee of EUR 100,- is received, UEGF is happy to provide 1 night accommodation from February 3-4, 2011, 1 course dinner with participants and Faculty, full course registration (incl. lunches and coffee breaks during the time of the course) and a course syllabus. All selected nominees are required to attend the UEGF Professional Trainee Course in full (February 3-4, 2011 inclusive). Attendees are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. Please note that travel reimbursement cannot be provided.

UEMSUEGF is in the process of seeking approval from the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education in Brussels (EACCME), an institution of the UEMS, to provide EACCME credits for attendance.
